Why Black History Month Matters at Boom Marketing Group

February 11, 2025

It’s February 2025—Black History Month—and at Boom Marketing Group, we’re not here for polished statements or symbolic posts. We’re here to build something real.
This month isn’t just a history lesson—it’s a mirror. A reminder of how far we’ve come, and how far we still have to go when it comes to ownership, opportunity, and equity in business.
Boom was built on those exact values: respect, accountability, and results for all people—regardless of background, skin color, or zip code. We don’t care where you’re from. We care how you show up.
💡 Why This Month Still Matters
Black History Month exists because for too long, the stories of Black excellence were buried, ignored, or whitewashed.
But this isn’t just about the past. This month is about acknowledging the builders and leaders who’ve shaped America’s business engine—and how those stories fuel what we’re doing at Boom today.
Black entrepreneurs haven’t just survived—they’ve innovated. They’ve led. And they’ve redefined what’s possible.
🏆 Three Entrepreneurs Who Changed the Game
Here are three names that deserve permanent real estate in any conversation about business leadership:
- Madam C.J. Walker
Born to formerly enslaved parents, she became the first self-made female millionaire in America. She didn’t just build a haircare empire—she built a movement of financial empowerment for Black women in the early 1900s, hiring thousands and creating generational wealth before the term even existed.
- Reginald F. Lewis
Harvard Law grad turned global dealmaker. In the 1980s, he pulled off a $985M buyout of Beatrice International Foods, becoming one of the first Black billionaires. He didn’t just make history—he rewrote the rulebook on legacy and leverage.
- Robert F. Smith
Founder of Vista Equity Partners, managing over $9B. In 2019, he paid off the entire Morehouse graduating class’s student loan debt. That wasn’t charity—it was leadership. It was a message: If you make it to the top, lift while you climb.
These aren’t just success stories—they’re blueprints.
🚀 Why It Hits Home at Boom
At Boom, we’re obsessed with leveling the playing field.
We’ve helped single moms, ex-cons, first-gen grads, and everyday grinders step into affiliate marketing and turn it into something real. Not with excuses. With systems. With belief. With work.
We don’t recruit based on who fits a mold—we open the doors for anyone ready to break one.
That’s what ownership looks like.
🔍 What Still Needs Work
Let’s not pretend we’ve solved it all.
Black entrepreneurs are still locked out of capital, mentorship, leadership pipelines, and circles of influence.
And too many companies talk diversity without ever building it into their comp plans, leadership hires, or decision-making process.
At Boom, we’re not perfect. But we’re not silent either. We call it out, and we build better.
🛠️ What We’re Doing This Month
Here’s how we’re honoring Black History Month with action—not performance:
Featuring Black Entrepreneurs
across our network who are getting it done.
Hosting real convos
inside our team on race, equity, and leadership in business.
Doubling down
on our mission to open doors, fund mentorships, and eliminate BS barriers.
And we’re doing this not just in February—but every damn day.
👊 Join Us
Black History Month isn’t just a calendar moment—it’s a challenge.
To build better. To recruit wider. To lead with intention.
So whether you’re brand new here or part of the Boom crew for years, ask yourself this:
What are you building—and who are you building it for?
Because around here, we believe in building people. That’s how you build legacies.
Let’s keep going.
