Reminder: Sept 15 Is the Corporate Tax Extension Deadline — Are You Ready?

If you’re a business owner and you or your accountant filed a corporate tax extension earlier this year, heads up: the deadline to file those taxes is coming in hot— next week on September 15.
You’d be shocked how many business owners forget about this until the 11th hour, or worse, assume their accountant’s got it handled without ever confirming. So consider this your blunt-but-loving reminder to double check now and make sure you’re not sleepwalking into late fees or penalties.
And if you didn’t know extensions were even a thing…
Let’s back up a second—yes, you can file an extension for both corporate and personal taxes, which gives you more time to get your numbers right and your strategy dialed in. For corporations, that extended deadline lands on September 15. For personal taxes, the extension gives you until October 15.
You (or your accountant) had to file that extension back in March or April—but if you did, you’re not off the hook yet. You still have to actually file the return. That’s what this blog post is about.
Why do people file extensions?
Honestly, there are some smart reasons to delay:
- You get more time to organize write-offs and deductions.
- You get a clearer picture of how your business is performing year-to-date.
- And let’s be real—some of us are just drowning in deadlines and need that extra breathing room.
In fact, if your business is growing or your income is shifting, waiting until later in the year helps your CPA understand what you’re really working with—and helps them set you up with better strategies before year-end.
Pro Tip: Schedule your reminders ahead of time
If your accountant isn’t hounding you, you need to be the one keeping tabs. A simple hack? Use scheduled emails. You can write a message now and have it land in your CPA’s inbox on any date you choose.
Here’s how that might look:
- Write a quick email that says “Hey, just checking—are we still good for the Sept 15 tax filing?”
- Use your email platform’s schedule send feature (Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail—they all have it).
- Set up 3 or 4 of these a year so you stay on top of extensions, quarterly estimates, and year-end prep.
Trust me—future you will thank you.
Final Thought:
If you run a business, you don’t get to claim ignorance on tax deadlines. These aren’t suggestions—they’re legal obligations. And when you stay on top of things like this, it sends a signal to your team, your CPA, and your future self that you’re running a real business, not playing dress-up.
So don’t ghost your accountant. Don’t assume anything.
Make the call. Send the email. And get it done.
